The brief
David Viñolas Trio asked us to design the digipak for their album “Cap al capvespre”. David is a blind musician, and the album had to be an object he could recognise and enjoy himself.
They needed packaging that did not rely on sight alone: a piece that could also be read with the hands.
The solution
We designed the cover starting from touch. The photograph is printed, but the lettering carries no ink: it is made solely with spot UV varnish.
The varnish makes the letters shine more or less depending on how the light catches them, and it feels different from the rest of the cover when you run your fingers over it. The title reveals itself as you look at it and touch it.
The result is a restrained, intimate digipak, like the trio's jazz, that heightens the sense of touch and turns the album into an experience that goes beyond sight.
