Editorial Design

Laying out means placing text and images on pages. Editorial design means deciding beforehand how the whole publication should breathe: which typographic system, which grid, which rhythm. One is technique; the other is judgement. We do both, but we always start with the second.

We work with the text you give us, but we always organise it visually so it reads well. If you need proofreading or copy-editing, we'll tell you and coordinate it with professionals we trust. What we'll never do is sign off a layout that doesn't make sense.

It depends a lot on the number of pages, the complexity of the composition and whether it's a one-off or a periodical. We work with tailored quotes and always explain what each phase includes. A magazine with a repeatable system isn't quoted the same way as an illustrated book.

We don't print ourselves, but we coordinate the whole process with the printer: we prepare the files with the right bleeds and profiles, check the proofs and make sure the final result is what you saw on screen. We never leave anyone alone with the PDF.

Yes, and we highly recommend it. For periodicals we create a reusable editorial system: a template with styles and rules that lets you lay out future issues consistently while saving time.

You get the final print-ready PDF and, if agreed, the open layout files and an optimised digital version. All neatly organised so you can come back to it whenever you like.

We start by understanding the content and its purpose. We define the format and system, design a few sample pages for you to approve the style and, once signed off, lay out the whole publication. We work with a limited number of projects at a time so we can look after every detail.
